Health 5.0 and Research: Fondazione DARE at the forefront of the digital and sustainable healthcare ecosystem

Rome, 11 November 2025 – More than 400 participants attended the event “Health 5.0 and Research: The Initiatives of the National Complementary Plan in Support of the Digital Future of Healthcare,” held in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate at Sapienza University of Rome. The meeting, attended by the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, Senator Maria Alessandra Gallone, and the Rector Antonella Polimeni, brought together universities, institutions, and the research community to outline new trajectories for a digital and sustainable healthcare system.

During the event, the four Foundations of the National Complementary Plan (PNC) – D³4Health, DARE, ANTHEM and Fit4MedRob – presented the results and future perspectives of their activities, illustrating how collaboration among diverse and complementary areas of expertise can create value for citizens’ health and for the evolution of the national healthcare system.

During the event, the DARE Foundation (Digital Lifelong Prevention) outlined its contribution to building a digital ecosystem for prevention, based on the integration of clinical, environmental, genetic, and behavioural data, and on the use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, wearable devices, and digital twins.

Today, DARE brings together more than 50 partners – including universities, research hospitals (IRCCS), healthcare organisations, environmental agencies, enterprises, and foundations – within an innovation ecosystem that encompasses all dimensions of prevention: primary, secondary, and tertiary.

There are already more than 70 pilot projects underway across five Italian regions (Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Veneto, Puglia, and Sicily), involving data from over 2.5 million citizens, in support of predictive and personalised prevention models.

Based in Bologna, the DARE Foundation serves as the national hub of the initiative, ensuring governance, sustainability, and continuity of project activities, in synergy with regional healthcare services and public institutions.

Thanks to DARE, Italy ranks among the most active European countries in building a digital ecosystem for prevention, in line with the strategies of European Health Data. In alignment with the European Health Data Space and the WHO Digital Health Strategy, contributing to a more predictive, participatory, and sustainable healthcare system."

“Investing in prevention means investing in the country’s future,” stated Lorenzo Chiari, President of the DARE Foundation. “The challenge lies in rethinking prevention as a common and sustainable good, capable of reducing inequalities and improving quality of life, while maintaining public and responsible oversight of the use of digital technologies.”
